History of the company

The company was founded in 1930 by Thomas Dachser . In the middle of the global economic crisis , Dachser began transporting Allgäu cheese to the Rhineland in 1930 . In 1934 the first branch was opened in Memmingen , four years later a branch was opened in Neuss in the Rhineland. Dachser became the leading freight forwarding company in the Allgäu.

During World War II, almost all of the company's vehicles and drivers were confiscated by the state. All branches were destroyed in the war. Business was resumed soon after the war, and in 1949 “Thomas Dachser Spedition” was entered in the commercial register . The company's great growth began in the 1950s. A large number of branches were opened in Germany and international transports started by land, air and sea. In 1951, the first air freight office opened at Munich Airport . At the end of the decade, the company had 1,000 employees who generated sales of more than 70 million DM.

In 1969 the company was one of the founding members of Kombiverkehr KG. The aim of the company was to network rail traffic with road traffic . Its purpose was, among other things, to organize the transport of trucks and swap bodies without a tractor by rail for their limited partners . This was one of the reasons that Dachser converted its entire fleet to swap bodies by 1971. The selected external dimensions of the interchangeable load carriers have also been adopted by other manufacturers and transport companies and have thus become standard in the industry.

In 1999 the company bought the French logistics service provider Graveleau in order to expand its network in Europe and North Africa. Since then, Dachser has been expanding in Asia, Europe and the United States.
