Location of the municipality | ||
Coslada is a town in the Spanish region of Madrid . It is located around 13 km east of Madrid city center, immediately south of Barajas Airport . Coslada has 81,661 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019), the municipality area covers 12 km².
The community has only recently increased in size and importance due to the proximity of the airport. In 1960 only 3,695 inhabitants lived in the municipality. Accordingly, Coslada is mainly characterized by new buildings. The city is integrated into Madrid's local transport network: the main thoroughfares N-II, M 40 and M 45 run through Coslada, which was also connected to the metro network in 2007 (line 7).
In May 2008 Coslada gained international fame in the wake of a police scandal when 30 municipal police officers - one fifth of the workforce - were arrested on suspicion of organized extortion and drug trafficking.
economy
Because of the proximity to the airport and a large freight terminal, there are many freight forwarders here and the large parcel services also have their transshipment depots here.
