Griñón is a Spanish municipality in the province of Madrid in the autonomous community of Madrid . In 2016, the municipality had 9,938 inhabitants on an area of ​​17.42 km².

history

The founding of Griñón dates back to the time of the Arabs. From Alfonso VI. Recaptured by León , the villages of Cubas and Griñón were placed under the jurisdiction of Madrid by Bishop Juan Ramírez de Guzmán in 1274. Henry III. of Castile awarded Griñon city recognition in 1383.

At the end of the 14th century, the Count of Fuensalida, Pedro López de Ayala y Castañeda, owned large estates in the area, which were later integrated into the estates of Humanes de Madrid of the Mayor's Office of the Marquesa de Villa.

location

The municipality is located about 27 km southwest of Madrid and 7 km west of the Autovía A-42 , which leads from Madrid to Toledo , on the M-404 road.

Attractions

  • Parish Church Ntra. Sra. De la Asunción: Mudejar style church , from the fourteenth century, with several extensions from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries. The church has an interesting baroque wooden altarpiece by Juan Correa de Vivar .
  • Monastery: Convento Clarisas de la Encarnación: This closed baroque monastery was founded in 1523 by Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar. The main altarpiece is from the 16th century, with a painting of Christ of Burgos by Ballueca (1688).
