Perales de Tajuña refers to a central Spanish town and municipality ( municipio ) with 2935 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) in the southeast of the autonomous community of Madrid . The Catholic parish belongs to the diocese of Alcalá de Henares .

location

The place Perales de Tajuña is located on the lower reaches of the Río Tajuña in the southeast of the Autonomous Community of Madrid at an altitude of about 590 meters above sea level. d. M. The distance to the northern city of Alcalá de Henares is about 44 kilometers, the distance to the northwestern capital Madrid is just under 42 kilometers (driving distance).

For centuries the community lived exclusively from growing grain ( barley and wheat ), which was mainly operated for self-sufficiency ; the cultivation of olives and wine also played a major role. For centuries, the town of Perales served as a mercantile, craft and cultural center for the hamlets and farmsteads in its area, which have now mostly disappeared. history

Due to the proximity to the Río Tajuña, most of the peoples of Spanish history are likely to have encamped in the municipality or have passed nearby, but so far - apart from Neolithic finds in the caves ( cuevas ) northeast of the place - there is no archaeological evidence. In the Middle Ages there was a castle ( castillo ) in the place , but no remains of it have survived; the place belonged for centuries to the district ( alfoz ) of Alcalá de Henares .

Attractions

  • The small parish church ( Iglesia de Santa María del Castillo ) dates from the 16th century and is located at the highest point in the village. It is an unadorned, plastered building with a bell gable ( espadaña ); the entrance is - completely untypical for the region - on the north side.
  • The town hall ( ayuntamiento ), a broad, two-storey building with a small central tower with a bell top, is located on the town's rectangular main square ( plaza mayor ). Like many houses in the village, it has balconies that are rarely used, but are very beneficial for shading the interior.
