The town's population growth, which has continued since the 1950s, is largely due to its relative proximity to the greater Madrid area.
economy
For centuries the community lived exclusively from growing grain ( barley and wheat ), which was mainly operated for self-sufficiency ; the cultivation of olives and wine (Vinos de Titulcia) still plays a major role today. Livestock husbandry (sheep, goats, chickens) also took place to a small extent. For centuries, the place itself served as a mercantile, craft and cultural center for the hamlets and farmsteads in its area, which have now mostly disappeared. Today agriculture still plays the most important role in the economic life of the municipality, but there are also smaller craft and service companies.
history
Due to its strategic location near two rivers (Río Jarama and Río Tajuña), most of the peoples of Spanish history are likely to have left their mark on the hill of Titulcia. However, due to the regular overbuilding, not much has been excavated so far. In the course of reclaiming ( reconquista ) Toledo in 1085 under Alfons VI. was also Bayona del Tajuña , the medieval name of the place again Christian. The Latin name Titulcia handed down from Titus Livius was only reintroduced in 1814.
