City festivals

Tortilla Day

Tortilla Day is celebrated on Carnival Tuesday. All residents go to the country and eat tortilla . In the afternoon there is a carnival parade with prizes for the participants and the best costumes.

San Isidro (May 15th)

Festival in honor of Isidore of Madrid . Mass is held at 1 a.m., followed by a procession in honor of the saint. The town's farmers and ranchers accompany the procession, followed by the rest of the population and countless horses. Lemonade, bread and cheese are distributed in the Plaza Consistorial.

San Juan Bautista (June 24th)

Festival in honor of John the Baptist , the patron saint of Guadalix de la Sierra and namesake of the parish church. Procession with the image of St. John as a child, the work of the sculptor Mariano Rubio , a son of the city, to the banks of the Río Guadalix ( river G. ). The image of the saint goes into the water of the river and baptizes anyone who wishes to renew his baptism.

Patron celebrations of the Blessed Virgin of Espinar (June 7th - 14th)

Festival with processions, music bands, cattle ragout with potatoes, sports tournaments, climbing masts, chess tournaments, folk dances and bullfights.

The M-608 road, which runs in east-west direction, takes you 6 km east to the Autovía del Norte ( northern motorway ) A-1, which reaches the city of Madrid in 50 km.

There is no railway connection.

The 726 bus runs every hour to Nalvalafuente and every half hour to Madrid. On the weekends, the line also runs three times at night. It takes 1 hour to get to Plaza de Castilla in the north of Madrid.

The Spanish television broadcaster Telecinco produces the program "Gran Hermano" ( Big Brother ) in Guadalix de la Sierra.
