In the 19th century the population was consistently below 200 people. Comparatively low property prices and rents have led to an influx of people from rural areas, but also from the city of Madrid, in recent years.
economy
For a long time Venturada was a small market town north of Madrid. The place was essentially characterized by an agricultural self-sufficiency economy.
history
Archaeological traces of the Iberians , Romans and Visigoths are missing. The earliest evidence of local history is therefore the watchtower ( Atalaya ) from the Islamic period (approx. 950) on a mountain peak to the north and a necropolis on the outskirts from the same period. Otherwise the region was in 10/11. Century largely abandoned and was only after the reconquest ( reconquista ) Toledo (1085) under Alfonso VI. repopulated ( repoblación ). The church of Santiago Apóstol was built around 1200 . Otherwise, the place largely shares the history of the larger neighboring town of Talamanca de Jarama .
Attractions
- The small single-nave parish church of Santiago Apóstol is one of the few examples of Romanesque architecture in the Madrid area, which is mainly due to the repopulation of the region, which was only completed around 1200. The building, made entirely of hardly worked rubble stone, has a bell gable ( espadaña ) made of stone in the west , which may date from the 15th or 16th century, but no entrance; this is located on the south side and shows an extremely simple Romanesque design language. The east part of the church consists of a vestibule and a small square apse .
- Another attraction of the place is a well-preserved or lovingly restored 'Beschlagbock' or ' Hoofbock ' ( potro de hierro ), as it existed - in different forms - in earlier times in many rural areas of Europe. Wandering farriers tended the hooves of the horses and cattle here, which were fixed with the help of ropes and belts; Brand marks could also be administered here. In earlier times the frame was certainly neither covered nor accessible via stairs. Most of these structures were on the outskirts - because of the dirt and the roaring of the animals, but mainly because of the additional risk of fire from flying sparks .
- Atalaya
- A round tower ( atalaya ) made of uncut natural stone stands on a mountain range about 1000 meters high, a few kilometers north of the town. It was probably built in the 10th century. H. during the time of Islamic rule, when a watchtower and signal tower was built. It belongs to a group of several towers, most of which are in the territory of the Talamanca de Jarama municipality. The tower is particularly impressive because of its isolated location and the inclusion of natural rock to reach the entrance, which is around 2.5 meters high. It has a diameter of about six meters and, with its walls about one meter thick, reaches a height of about nine meters. Inside, the wooden viewing platform could only be reached via wooden intermediate levels and with the help of ladders.
