Wilhelm Friedrich Erfurt (born December 29, 1930 in Schwelm ) is a German wallpaper manufacturer.

Live and act

Wilhelm Erfurt was the owner of the paper factory Erfurt & Sohn, which specializes in wallpaper production, and until 1998 managed the family business in the sixth generation. Under his leadership, the company developed into Germany's best-known wallpaper brand. In 1969 he completely changed sales and introduced the distinctive green banderole for all products. 1995 Erfurt woodchip was registered as a trademark. As an entrepreneur, he campaigned for the provision of company apartments, “summer retreat” projects for the children of company employees, the establishment of company sports groups and a support association for employees in need.

In addition to his entrepreneurial activity, Wilhelm Erfurt was also involved in political and social fields. Among other things, he was temporarily deputy mayor of the city of Schwelm and member of the board of many Schwelm associations, u. a. the Beautification Association, the Association for Local Studies and the Hegering .

Foundation, endowment

In 1996 he founded the Wilhelm Erfurt Foundation for Culture and Nature Schwelm, which among other things supports various scientific studies on the flora and fauna of the region. In addition, with his foundation he financed the publication of some regional history publications. Erfurt was also one of the supporters of the project "Every child an instrument" and promoted the conservation work on Haus Martfeld , the Haferkasten in the park, the chapel and the restoration of several valuable writings in the historical library.

Honors

On September 5, 2006, Erfurt was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by NRW Prime Minister Jürgen Rüttgers "for his" social commitment, innovative spirit and an attitude that exemplarily combines self-determination and responsibility.
