EMS was a punk / hardcore band from Austria that existed from 1993 to 2002.

history

EMS was originally a school band that played melodic punk rock and covers and released two cassettes under the name "Eat My Shorts" .

They changed the meaning of their initials 1998 "Ego Means Survival", the music style was much harder and they released a split - EP with the band Radikalkur from Vienna . With anarchist texts, their DIY way of working and musical idiosyncrasies, they became somewhat known in the anarcho-punk scene and the autonomous and counterculture movement in Austria and Germany. Together with Radikalkur, the music label Bloodshed666 was founded in 1998/1999 and concerts were organized for other bands.

In 1999 the release of a split album with Virage Dangereux among others on the German label Twisted Chords and a split cassette with Fight The System from Spain on the English label Tapes Are Cool. In 2001 two split albums were released with Nula ( Croatia ) and BBs Paranoicos ( Chile ). EMS are featured on several compilations of various small DIY labels. In 2002 the band broke up after internal disputes.

In total, they played more than 100 concerts, mainly in squats and autonomous centers in Austria, Germany and neighboring countries. In 2004 they played another concert with covered songs by the US hardcore band Minor Threat in Vienna's Ernst-Kirchweger-Haus . Some of the band's musicians were and are still active in other bands, such as Radikalkur, Phal: Angst, Cyruss, Grant Royal, Solrize, Circle Of Light or Saloonies.
