Sähkö Recordings is a Finnish record label for techno and minimal techno .

history

Tommi Grönlund founded Sähkö in 1993. The label name is the Finnish word for electricity. The first publication was the EP Röntgen (SÄHKÖ-001) published by Mika Vainio under the alias Ø . This was followed by publications by Panasonic ( Panasonic EP ), Mike Ink ( Rosengranz ), Kirlian ( Porzellangasse Grooves Pt. 1 ) and Fred Giannelli ( Telepathic Romance ).

Sähkö was also known for extremely minimalist yet artfully designed record covers. The first singles appeared in simple silver record covers with small holes in the middle of the records. The design was inspired by the musician Boyd Rice , who also provided his records with additional holes using a drill.

In 1994 the sub-label Puu was founded, operated by Jimi Tenor , and is more dedicated to the genres of house , easy listening and jazz .

With Keys Of Life , another Sähkö sub-label was founded in 1999, which is exclusively dedicated to the house genre with releases by Roberto Rodriguez , Freestyle Man , Acid Kings and Jori Hulkkonen .

Grönlund founded the sub-label Jazzpuu in 2001 , on which the jazz musicians Olli Ahvenlahti , Eero Koivistoinen , Jukka Tolonen and the Heikki Sarmanto Trio , among others , published.
