Tommi Grönlund (artist)

Tommi Grönlund (* 1967 in Turku ) is a Finnish installation artist and operator of the music label Sähkö Recordings .

life and work

Tommi Grönlund was active in the Finnish music scene in the 1980s and organized the first Finnish rave together with Mika Vainio and Esko Routamaa under the name Hyperdelic Housers in the summer of 1989 . In 1993 he founded Sähkö Recordings , which included publications by Vainio, Panasonic Mike Ink , Kirlian and Fred Giannelli . Jimi Tenor , Freestyle Man and Brandi Ifgray have published on the Sähkö sub-label Puu .

Grönlund began studying architecture , which he never completed.

Since 1993 he has been working with Petteri Nisunen as Grönlund / Nisunen on artistic and curatorial projects. The duo primarily develops kinetic installations and room installations that deal with the fundamental qualities of space. Her works have been shown in numerous solo exhibitions both in Finland and internationally.

In 2001 they both curated the Nordic Pavilion at the Biennale di Venezia , in which they implemented the project The North Is Protected in collaboration with Leif Elggren , Carl Michael von Hausswolff and Anders Tomren . In 2013, Grönlund and Nisunen were awarded the Leonardo da Vinci World Award of Arts .

Tommi Grönlund lives and works in Helsinki .
