Life

Heiko "MSO" Schäfer began his professional career at the age of twenty as a part-time record seller at Boy Records on the in-house label Cyclotron -Records in Frankfurt.

In 1991 he accompanied the Hypnotist's live tour through Germany as a support DJ . A change from Boy Records to the then newly founded Delirium Record Store led Schäfer to his later long-term label partner Ata Macias . In the same year Schäfer and Ata Macias became resident DJs for the first time in the Frankfurt Club Plastik . In 1992 Ata, Atom Heart and Heiko MSO produced their first joint record under the pseudonym Ongaku called Mihon on the Pod Communication label . A short time later his solo project M / S / O - Trax, also produced by Atom Heart, followed on Pod Communication. Ata and Heiko founded their first joint label Ongaku Musik in October 1992 .

In 1993 the Ongaku sub-label Klang Elektronik and Playhouse were founded after Roman Flügel and Jörn Elling Wuttke (known together as Alter Ego and Acid Jesus) joined the team as producers. For five years the nightlife in Frankfurt was Ata and Schäfers as well as ND Baumecker's musical home and was also welcomed by international guest DJs such as B. Kerri Chandler , Luke Solomon , Matthew Herbert , Cajmere , Larry Heard or DJ Sneak . The popularity of the Wild Pitch Club leads them to a large number of guest appearances beyond the city and national borders, including as support DJs on the Marlboro US House Tour in 1995. In autumn 1994, Schäfer played at the solar eclipse party in Chilean Arica together with Ricardo Villalobos , Stacey Pullen and Derrick May . 1995 Pascal FEOS and Heiko Schäfer produce their first worldwide underground hit: Feos vs MSO - Our Music . He traveled to the United States for the first time in 1996 and performed in Detroit and Chicago . In 1997 he left the Delirium Record Store in order to be able to concentrate more professionally on the rapidly growing label work of Ongaku, Klang Elektronik and Playhouse. Taken together, the three labels had over 370 publications by 2011.

The success of his labels made him known internationally as a DJ. He played in a variety of well-known clubs such as B. Tresor, Weekend, Watergate, Ostgut (Berlin), Bar Rhumba and Fabric (London), Rex Club and Batofar (Paris), Mondo and Goa (Madrid), Club Nitsa (Barcelona) as well as in Amnesia and Space in Ibiza. His collaboration with the Red Bull Music Academy took him to Dublin, for the Goethe-Institut he traveled to Mexico City for several performances in 2000 (first Love Parade there) and to Beijing in China in 2009. In 2001 Schäfer started the Chocolat party series with his colleague Johnny Love , where he played as a DJ in different local locations. In addition, both (originally founded with Ata Macias in 1993) denied an irregular series of parties in Frankfurt called Men Without Nerves . In 2005, Schäfer released new own productions with FEOS and his new studio colleague Michael Laven. From 2011 to 2013, Schäfer and Einzelkind organized the monthly Morning Factory party series in Frankfurt, which took the two to Berlin, Geneva and other cities for guest performances.

In 2013 Schäfer founded his label MSO Records for his own productions and musical collaborations. The following year Der Schwarm and a collaboration with Ricardo Villalobos under the pseudonym El Rim Sordo Rhythm Group of '84 appeared under the name Laven & MSO . In addition, two jointly produced remixes for the EP What's your function by Sneaky Tim, originally released on Dance Mania in 1994 , were released . Most recently, Schäfer was resident DJ in the canteen in Miltenberg , where he has hosted parties with guest DJs every three months since 2013.

Heiko Schäfer lived in the Frankfurt / Main area. He was diagnosed with cancer in early April 2017. Schäfer died on May 17, 2017. The funeral service took place in the Robert Johnson techno club.
