Sabancı Central Mosque
The Sabancı Central Mosque ( Sabancı Merkez Camii in Turkish ) in Adana is the second largest mosque in Turkey and one of the largest in the world. It was opened in 1998 and the architect was Necip Dinç.
The mosque has six minarets , of which the front four (placed around the central dome) are 99 meters high, the two rear are 75 meters high. The largest of the five domes has a diameter of 32 meters and a height of 54 meters.
From the outside, this mosque is reminiscent of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque ("Blue Mosque") and the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul . The interior design is reminiscent of the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne .
The construction was financed 50% by donations from the population and 50% by the industrial family Sabancı .
