Sabina Gabriel Mugabe (born October 14, 1934 , † July 29, 2010 in Harare ) was a Zimbabwean politician .

Career

Mugabe was the younger sister of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe . As a member of the ZANU-PF , she was a member of the House of Assembly from 1985 to 2008 . From 1985 to 1990 she represented the constituency of Makonde East , from 1990 to 2008 the constituency of Zvimba South .

Farmer Terry Ford

She was involved in the forcible seizure of farms owned by white Zimbabweans in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Including the death of 55-year-old white Zimbabwean farmer Terry Ford, who was murdered by a mob that she unleashed because they wanted to usurp his house. Ford was beaten and then shot in the head on his farm west of Harare. Sabina Mugabe had previously asked him in November 2000 to hand over his farm to her "so that she could move in". The fact that Mr. Ford's old Jack Russell Terrier, Squeak, refused to leave his master's body made international headlines.

Two of her four children, Leo Mugabe and Patrick Zhuwao, were also MPs in the National Assembly.

Sabina Mugabe suffered a stroke in 2007, gave up her parliamentary mandate in 2008 and died in July 2010 after a long illness.
