Sabine Constabel (* 1959 in Esslingen ) is a social worker in Stuttgart . She campaigns for the rights of prostitutes and is a founding member and chairman of the Sisters association - for getting out of prostitution! e. V.

activity

Sabine Constabel has been working as a social worker with prostitutes in Stuttgart's Leonhardsviertel since the 1990s. Since then she has publicly drawn attention to the exploitation of women in prostitution. She tries to create social awareness that treating women as a commodity in prostitution is a violation of human rights.

She warned of the liberalization of prostitution before the Prostitution Act was passed in 2002. She denounces that the Prostitution Act (ProstG) of 2001 and the Prostitute Protection Act (ProstSchG) of 2017 make brothels and pimps socially acceptable, but leave the prostitutes exploited there alone. There would not be enough checks to see whether the prescribed protective mechanisms for women really benefit them. Before the law was passed, Constabel had commented on it in public hearings in the Committee on Legal Affairs and Consumer Protection of the German Bundestag and has criticized the provisions in the law as inadequate to this day.

In Stuttgart, Constabel initiated specific support projects through professional networking. The Stuttgart social service for prostitutes became a model for all of Germany.

In 2015 she founded the association Sisters eV together with women around her, which has set itself the task of helping prostitutes to quit prostitution. In addition, the association calls for a political rethinking process and to reduce the demand through a sex purchase ban based on the Nordic model . To this end, Sabine Constabel started the #ROTLICHTAUS campaign with the Sisters eV association and the Baden-Württemberg Women's Council .

As a specialist in her field, Constabel is now being interviewed by the media across Germany on the subject of prostitution, she is invited to talk shows together with high-ranking politicians, gives lectures and advises politics.

Awards

In 2018 Constabel was awarded the Barbara Künkelin Prize .
