history

The “Women's Council of Baden-Württemberg” was founded on December 6, 1969 as an amalgamation of 30 women's associations and groups and has been called the State Women's Council since 1971. The desire to network women's political organizations to strengthen political assertiveness was among other things. a. triggered by the fact that Toni Menzinger was only represented by one woman in the then state parliament in Stuttgart (see list of members of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg (5th electoral period) ). Bringing more women into parliaments and political bodies is still one of the main concerns of the State Women's Council of Baden-Württemberg. In addition to statements and events, he pushes this goal with the implementation of gender equality campaigns in order to mobilize a large majority and increase the pressure on politicians. However, topics such as women's advancement plans in business and in the public service as well as the compatibility of work and family are permanent demands of the State Women's Council. From this, out-of-home care options and part-time positions are demanded and debated. At the end of 2018, the Verband Familienarbeit eV in Baden-Württemberg resigned from the state women's council, as in its opinion "almost exclusively politics is made for working women and minorities". On the other hand, trade unions in particular fear that women with part-time jobs do not have sufficient social security. In addition to long-running issues such as the protection of women against violence and the demand for gender-equitable language, the State Women's Council always takes up current issues such as B. on digitization and its effects on women.
