Manuela Rukavina

Manuela Rukavina (born November 23, 1979 in Göppingen ) is a German sociologist and coach, chairwoman of the ver.di regional women's council of Baden-Württemberg and was first chairwoman of the state women's council of Baden-Württemberg from 2015 to 2017 . On May 22, 2019, Federal President Walter Steinmeier awarded her with the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for her commitment to political education .

Career

Born as the daughter of a German mother and a Croatian so-called guest worker, Rukavina studied sociology, business administration as well as vocational and business education at the University of Stuttgart . She has been working as a freelance consultant for both non-profit organizations and companies since 2007 and is involved in trade union work and women’s politics on a national and national level.

Union engagement

Manuela Rukavina has been a union membership ( DAG , later ver.di) since 1999 and has taken on various voluntary functions. From 2005 until today she has been a member of the ver.di regional board. In 2007 she became a member of ver.di department 13 ( special services ) and in 2008 its chairman. This department represents employees in professions that are not represented in the other departments of the union; these are often precarious areas such as surveillance or the hairdressing trade.

Rukavina has been active in the ver.di regional women's council in Baden-Württemberg since 2005 and has been chairwoman since 2009. In the period 2017/2018, the membership development of women at ver.di Baden-Württemberg was the only regional association to develop positively thanks to their commitment .

From 2007 she was a member of the ver.di Federal Women's Council and from 2010 to 2017 she was deputy chairwoman of the committee. From 2008 to 2017 Manuela Rukavina was a member of the district women's committee of the DGB district of Baden-Württemberg and is a delegate to trade union conferences at state level as well as to federal congresses of ver.di and DGB.

Engagement in women's politics

Manuela Rukavina has been active in the Baden-Württemberg State Women's Council, an umbrella organization of women's groups and associations in Baden-Württemberg, since she was a student. She has supported the State Women's Council in administration in several board positions (both as a part-time job and on a voluntary basis).

In the board period from 2011 to 2014, Rukavina was nominated and elected by the DGB district of Baden-Württemberg as an assessor on the board of the state women's council. In 2014, the Assembly of Delegates of the National Women's Council elected Rukavina as First Chair. She held this office until the end of 2017.

Sociopolitical projects and goals

Closing the gender wage gap

Under her leadership in 2011, the ver.di regional women's council, together with other regional districts, achieved at the federal congress that the eg-check instrument must be actively used by the collective bargaining committees in order to qualify and legally justify the demand for non-discriminatory, gender-equitable remuneration for equivalent activities can. As chairwoman of the regional women's council, she also addressed the gender wage gap .

Representation of women in politics and committees

Rukanvina initiated the following women's political campaigns with the Baden-Württemberg State Women's Council or played a formative role:

  • 2012 "Half the strength is not enough! Change in local electoral law - parity now"
  • 2016 transparency campaign for the state election 2016
  • 2017 campaign # half for equal representation of the state cabinet

The mobilization achieved in this way supported the reform of the Baden-Württemberg state election law, through which Section 9 (6) was introduced into the Local Election Act: "Men and women should be considered equally when drawing up an election proposal". Rukavina is still committed to ensuring that the should become a must.

Fight against poverty among women and the elderly, support for refugee women

Fight against racism

Rukavina appears regularly as a speaker at celebrations for International Women's Day , May 1st and e.g. B. Hold together at the major rally in Stuttgart ! Baden-Württemberg against racism and violence in January 2016.

For her political commitment she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon by Frank-Walter Steinmeier on May 22, 2019 .
