Renate Bran

Renate Bran (born March 29, 1928 in Dresden ; † August 27, 2013 in Calw ) founded the Baden-Württemberg State Women's Council.

Life

Renate Bran became a mother at an early age and married twice. As a war refugee from the Sudetenland , she lived in Freudenstadt, Marbach and Stuttgart. Her social commitment was already evident at the age of 24. She was involved in the development of the city youth council in Freudenstadt . In 1955 she started a career as an editorial secretary at "Bürger im Staat", the forerunner of the state center for political education . In addition, she was active in the planning and implementation of many conferences, often on the subject of political education for women. Although, apart from that, she took a neutral position on political issues, as a CDU member she founded the Baden-Württemberg State Women's Council in 1969. From 1977, Renate set up the International Hermann Hesse Colloquium in Calw together with her husband Friedrich Bran and Martin Pfeiffer. This is still held today. She also acted as director of the Calw Adult Education Center. Furthermore, she also trained other women who wanted to get involved in local politics. Even in retirement, she was active on the City Seniors' Council.
