Sabine Gasteiger (born October 28, 1956 ) is an Austrian disabled athlete specializing in alpine skiing .

Life

The sportswoman only has a visual remainder of five percent. At the Winter Paralympics 2006 in Turin , she won a medal in every discipline in which she competed. In total there were one gold, two silver and one bronze medal. Because of this achievement, Gasteiger was honored as the Austrian disabled athlete of the year . In the 2005/2006 season she also won the overall World Cup. In 2009 she was again named Disabled Athlete of the Year. At the Winter Paralympics 2010 in Vancouver , Canada , Sabine Gasteiger won a gold medal in slalom and a silver medal in giant slalom. This makes her the most successful Austrian participant in the Games after Claudia Lösch . Gasteiger belongs to the Upper Austrian Blind Sports Club (OÖBSC).

In 2006 she received the Golden Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria .
