Sabucina

Sabucina is an archaeological site in Sicily . It is located on the mountain of the same name, about 5 km from Caltanissetta .

The oldest finds date from the beginning of the early Bronze Age . Several smaller settlements existed here from the 23rd to the 15th century that can be assigned to the Castelluccio culture . From 13th to 10th centuries BC BC there was a larger settlement, which was inhabited by members of the Pantalica northern culture . From this time u. a. Remains of round huts and a kiln as well as grotto graves ( rock chamber graves ) in the area. This place was finally destroyed and was only sparsely populated for a long time.

In the 8th century BC A new settlement was built. In this phase the buildings have a rectangular floor plan. From the 7th century BC The city came under Greek influence. What was unusual for Greek settlements, however, was the irregular layout of the streets. In the 5th century BC The place was partially destroyed by Ducetius . End of the 5th century BC The settlement was abandoned. It was last seen in the 4th century BC. And abandoned in the same century.

Findings from the excavations are exhibited in the Museum of Caltanissetta.
