SachsenBeach
SachsenBeach is a major sporting event in beach volleyball that was initiated especially for grassroots and recreational sports . It is considered the largest beach volleyball tournament in Germany.
The event, which has been held annually on Augustusplatz in downtown Leipzig since 2009, is growing steadily and in 2018 counted around 1,400 active athletes in 427 teams on six tournament days. In the first year of 2009, twelve tournaments were played on four fields over a period of three days. Approx. 600 participants played for the first tournament victories. The event is regularly attended by many thousands of spectators. In 2016 over 15,000 spectators followed the tournament and the supporting program.
Six beach volleyball courts will be set up on Augustusplatz for the event. The range of tournaments includes tournaments for amateur athletes, companies, students , schoolchildren and amateur league players in over 20 special tournaments and tournament forms.
The SachsenBeach A-Masters of the SSVB and the LE Beachtour have already made several guest appearances , and in 2018 the Technicker Beach Tour was also a guest in Leipzig following SachsenBeach. In 2015 the official Saxony Beach volleyball championship of the SSVB was held as part of the event. In addition to competitions for recreational and professional players, tournaments especially for children are also held. In the Tournament schedule a sitting volleyball tournament was already integrated several times, which in cooperation with the Association of Disabled Sports Leipzig Department sitting volleyball was launched.
In 2015, as part of the anniversary of the first mention of the city of Leipzig 1000 years ago, a record attempt was started in which 1000 players, in 4 teams of 250 players each, were supposed to play a circular tournament.
In 2016, the "SachsenBeach Footvolley Ranking" was part of the tournament for the first time . The footvolley tournament takes place as part of the national footvolley ranking of the German Footvolley Association in cooperation with the "Sandball Leipzig" association.
