The Mediterranean Conference Center, or MCC for short , ( Maltese Dar il-Mediterran-Għall-Konferenzi German: Mediterranean Congress Center ) is a convention center and event hall in the Maltese capital Valletta .
history
It was built in the 16th century by the Order of Malta as a hospital under the name "Sacra Infermeria". The "Sacra Infermeria" originally consisted of two stations with a central courtyard, but was later expanded to six stations. The main hall was once the largest hall in Europe with a length of 480 meters. The building was made entirely of limestone . In the last few decades it has been renovated again and again.
Todays use
The building is now used for banquets , exhibitions, international gatherings and theater performances, as well as concerts. The largest hall, the "Republic Hall", which can be varied depending on the event, has a capacity of up to 1,500 people.
Events
In addition to several congresses, the MCC has often hosted several Maltese preliminary rounds of the Eurovision Song Contest . The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 also took place in the MCC. In 2017 the MCC was the venue for the Eurovision Young Dancers Contest 2017 . In November 2015, the MCC also hosted the Valletta Summit on Migration, which was attended by the governments of the member states of the European Union and the African Union .
