Sadanoumi Takashi ( Japanese 佐 田 の 海 貴 士 ; born May 11, 1987 in Kumamoto , Kumamoto Prefecture ), actually Matsumura Kaname ( 松 村 要 ), is a sumo wrestler in the Japanese Makuuchi division.
Sumo career
In 2003, Matsumura joined the Sakaigawa-beya stable. Since January 2004 he has been fighting as Sadanoumi. His father was already active under this ring name in the 1980s. A year later he was promoted to the fourth highest division Sandanme by a 6-1 record in Jonidan . In November 2007 he was unbeaten there (7-0) and won the first tournament (yusho) of his career. So he made his debut in Makushita in 2008 . He also won a tournament in this division (in January 2010). In July 2010, Sadanoumi was allowed to compete in Jūryō for the first time and immediately scored a positive score of 9-6. He stayed in the Jūryō division until November 2011, but was then also demoted to makushita due to an injury that forced him to take a break. In January 2014 he finally made an impressive Jūryō comeback with an 11-4 record. With a close kachi-koshi in the following tournament, Sadanoumi made the promotion to the Makuuchi division perfect. Once there, he immediately convinced with a 10-5, for which he was awarded the Kantō-shō . At the Hatsu Basho 2015 he achieved a result of 9-6 and was then promoted to the rank of Maegashira 2 . In this new highest career rank, he met opponents from the San'yaku ranks for the first time . However, he had no chance against them for the most part and suffered eight defeats in the first nine days. He was able to win all of the six outstanding fights and thus finish the tournament with a 7-8. In May 2015 Sadanoumi reached an 8-7 as Maegashira 3 and defeated both the eventual tournament winner Terunofuji and Yokozuna Harumafuji . As a reward, he received the first kinboshi of his career and a promotion to maegashira 1 . He was also nominated for the Shukun-shō, which is usually awarded to fighters with a kachi-koshi if they have also beaten a yokozuna or the tournament winner. In the end, however, he did not get the award because he won once without a fight and thus actually only achieved seven victories.
