The Saddam Fedayeen ( Arabic فدائيو صدام Fidā'iyyū Saddām , DMG Fidāʾīyū Ṣaddām , roughly “those ready to make sacrifices”) were a paramilitary , well-trained and well-equipped militia in Iraq . The militia with a strength of around 20,000 to 40,000 men was founded in 1995 by Saddam Hussein's son Udai and was one of the main pillars on which the power of the system was based. The young men were only recruited from regions that were loyal to Saddam Hussein, which is why they enjoyed his special trust.

The Saddam Fedayeen also included a special unit known as the Death Squad . The members were easily recognizable by their black uniforms and hooded faces. You have been involved in several executions and operated outside of the law.

After the invasion of the US army in Baghdad , the militia disbanded, but some members went underground.

On November 30, 2003 attacked gunmen in black Fedayeen uniforms almost simultaneously two US convoys on. However, the attack was repulsed by the Americans. It is believed that many former Fedayeen fighters fought on the side of the Iraqi resistance against US troops. In 2003 they shot at a cargo plane belonging to European Air Transport, which is now part of DHL Aviation .
