Sadko (Садко) is the name of a hero from the story of the same name in a Russian saga ( Byline ).

He is an adventurer, trader and gusli player from Novgorod . The figure is based on a merchant of the same name from the 12th century documented by chroniclers.
The legend, told in many different ways, is about how Sadko got rich through the sea king and later gets caught on the seabed, whereupon he can free himself with the help of St. Nicholas .
Adaptations
- Nikolai Andrejewitsch Rimski-Korsakow wrote an opera of the same name in seven acts, which premiered on January 7, 1898 in Moscow's Solodownikow Theater.
- In 1952, the material was made into a film by Alexander Ptuschko , who ran under the title Lockendes Glück in the GDR .
- A Russian TV version was made in 1994, directed by Brian Larges .
