Kasriel Hirsch Sarasohn

Kasriel Hirsch Sarasohn (also: Hersch ; also: Sarahsohn ; * 1835 in the Powiat Suwalski , today Poland, as the son of a rabbi ; † January 12, 1905 in New York ) was an American publicist and philanthropist .

Sarasohn immigrated from Russia to the United States in 1866, where he a. a. In 1872 the first Yiddish American weekly newspaper New Yorker Yiddishe Tseitung and in 1874 the weekly newspaper Di Yidishe Gazeten (existed for over 50 years) and then in 1885 the first Yiddish daily newspaper Yidishes Tageblat published. He was also a delegate at several Zionist congresses .

His son Ezekiel Sarasohn and his son-in-law L. Kamelka continued the journalistic tradition with various papers, some of which still exist today.
