The Saffery Islands are a group of islands off the Graham Coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . They extend west of the Black Head . They include Turtle Island , Marker Rock , Turnabout Island, and the Fringe Rocks .
Participants of the British Graham Land Expedition (1934-1937) led by the Australian polar explorer John Rymill mapped them. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1959 after John Hugh Saffery (1907–1985), deputy head of the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition (1955–1957), when aerial photographs of part of this area were made.
