Said Ahmed Mohamed (born December 12, 1947 in Zanzibar ) is a Tanzanian author and editor.

Life

Mohamed was a teacher in Pemba and Zanzibar from 1969 to 1975, and in the following year he studied education and linguistics in Dar es Salaam. He received his PhD in African studies in Leipzig in 1984. He later worked for several years as a lecturer, from 1985 to 1990 in Zanzibar , Eldoret , Nairobi and from 1990 to 1997 in Osaka. Said Ahmed Mohamed has been Professor of Literature in African Languages ​​in Bayreuth since 1997 . Mohamed writes in all three literary genres. He is also an important novelist and exponent of magical realism in Swahili literature.

Works

Said's first published novel came out in 1977 and was set in Zanzibar. Asali Chungu initially begins an unscrupulous crime. Violence is a constantly emerging topic in this novel. Asali Chungu addresses the family entanglements that can arise in incest. The third published book of Mohammed is called Amezidi and means exaggeration. This novel deals with the Swahili drama, food aid, development aid, the corruption of the local population and the inaction of the affected population. Amezidi was published in 1995. The sixth novel Babu Alipofufuka (Coming back to life as a grandfather) deals with the elements of realism, surrealism, literature and myth. Babu Alipofufuka shows some traits of magical realism.
