Traditionally, the Finnish military uses a variety of Russian defense technology. When developing assault rifles, Finnish armaments companies such as Valmet and SAKO oriented themselves towards the AK-47 rapid-fire rifle, which was licensed to reproduce. The Russian short M43 cartridge was also used. The Sako M95 is a further development of the Valmet RK 62 / Rk 62, the standard rifle of the Finnish army . In 1987 Valmet and SAKO merged, with the weapons division being continued under the SAKO brand. The M95 is primarily intended for export, which is why it is also available with a NATO caliber. There are only a few specimens in the arsenal of the Finnish Army, they are listed there as Rk 95 .
