Life and work

Buscema began working as an ink draftsman for the US publisher Marvel Comics in the mid-1960s through the mediation of his older brother, the illustrator John Buscema .

After having only inked his brother's pencil templates for a few years, Buscema gradually took on his own drawing assignments. For over 30 years, Buscema has worked for Marvel on series such as Captain America , The Incredible Hulk , The Mighty Thor , The Defenders and, above all, Spider-Man . Authors Buscema worked with included Steve Englehart , Len Wein , Roger Stern , Gerry Conway , Walt Simonson and Steve Gerber.

The most extensive work in Buscema's career was a more than 100-edition engagement as an illustrator on the Spectacular Spider-Man series from 1988 to 1996.

Buscema went into semi-retirement in the mid-1990s. Since then, he has done without the time-consuming gigs as a pencil draftsman and again, as in his early years, limited himself to inking the work of other artists.
