Sally Carr (born March 28, 1945 in Muirhead , Scotland ) is a British singer . She became known as the lead singer of the pop group Middle of the Road in the early 1970s .

Life

Carr is one of five children, she has four brothers. Her father was a miner. Her mother Cecilia was ill bedridden. The family often gathered to make music together. Still, Carr had no professional vocal training. In 1978 she married the journalist Chick Young, but separated from him again in 1984 without a divorce. Their son Keith, born in 1980, was killed in a motorcycle accident in January 2001.

Carr's first band was The Southerners. In 1970 the group Middle of the Road was formed and Carr had success with songs like " Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep " and "Sacramento". In 1977 she left the band to pursue a solo career.
