Salom Italia
Salom Italia (* around 1619 in Mantua , unsure; † around 1655 in Amsterdam , unsure) was an Italian - Jewish engraver in Amsterdam.
Life
Salom Italia was probably born around 1619 in Mantua ( Lombardy ), where his father Mordechai d'Italia ran a printing company. Since 1641 at the latest, Salom lived in Amsterdam, where he presumably worked until his death.
Of the ten works he has signed, two are dated. Most of the copperplate engravings he has received are on Esther rolls (Megilot). He is also best known for the portraits of Jacob Judah Leon (1641) and Menasse ben Israel (1642). Illustrated marriage contracts ( Ketubba ) have also been preserved from him .
