Salpingoecidae

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.

Salpingoeca rosetta

The Salpingoecidae were a taxon of the so-called collar flagellates . The taxon comprised six genera. Later phylogenetic studies led to the merger of the taxon with the Monosigidae to form the Craspedida group .

features

All species are single or colony living cells, free-swimming or sedentary. A stem can be present or absent. The housing, the so-called theca , is a periplast that can be clearly seen with a light microscope .

The clearly pronounced collar stands at the side around the base of a single scourge , which, however, can also be missing. Freshwater forms usually have two, but occasionally more, contractile vacuoles at their rear end .

distribution

Species of the Salpingoecidae are found in fresh, brackish and marine water.
