Salt Rock State Campground is a state park in the area of the city of Sprague in the US state of Connecticut . The acquisition of a private campsite made it possible to protect a section of the Shetucket River one mile in length. The park offers 71 camp sites, a pool and fishing opportunities.
In 2001, the state acquired the campsite for US $ 750,000 from owners Dwight and Jean Lathrop, whose sensitive stewardship was praised in the press. In this way, the protection of one of the "last green valleys" in the Boston-Washington metropolitan area, the Quinebaug and Shetucket Rivers Valley National Heritage Corridor , is to be promoted. The aim is to preserve nature in the long term through ecotourism and at the same time earn income.
