Look behind the waterfall

The Salto Sapo or Salto El Sapo is a waterfall in the Canaima National Park in southeastern Venezuela . A hollow beneath the falling mass of water that allows you to go behind the waterfall makes it one of the national park's greatest tourist attractions .

The Salto Sapo is located in the immediate vicinity of the village of Canaima, which serves as a starting point for tours to the highest waterfall in the world ( Salto Ángel ). Shortly before Canaima, the river bed of the Río Carrao forks , and the river plunges into the lake Laguna de Canaima in several waterfalls . The reunited Rio Carrao then flows from the lake to the Río Caroní . The Salto Sapo, together with its small offshoot El Sapito, is the waterfall on the far right - viewed downstream. The passage behind the huge water curtain is only advisable in swimwear, as it is not possible to walk through in the dry, especially during the rainy season. During the dry season, however, only a small trickle remains of the once imposing mass of water.
