from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Salzburger Intellölkerblatt was a periodical newspaper in Salzburg during the Late Enlightenment from the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century.

Details of the newspaper

The Salzburger Intellölkerblatt was published from 1784 to 1806, initially weekly, from 1774 three times a week, from 1784 four times, from 1785 five times, from 1800 six times a week (transition to several days cannot be precisely dated). The sheet was published by Lorenz Hübner until 1799, followed by Franz Michael Vierthaler . It appeared in the form of four quarts sheet folded twice (thus quartered), printed on both sides, a total of eight pages each with 12 × 17 cm type area (text box). In 1784 it cost three to five guilders, thirty kreuzers for an annual subscription. The edition was about 1000 (mostly below, under the editor Hübner also above). The printing was done by the court and academic printing house (Duyle).

history

The Salzburger Intellölkerblatt appeared in the late Enlightenment period . The Catholic enlightener Lorenz Hübner, a Salzburg publicist, pursued goals such as broader public education and enlightenment . He was previously involved in setting up the “ Münchner Staatszeitung ” and from 1788 - after the establishment of the Salzburger Intellektivenblatt - also published the “ Allgemeine Oberdeutsche Litteratur-Zeitung ”. From 1799 he was head of the government press in Munich, to which the "Münchner Demokratie Zeitung" and the "Allgemeine Literaturzeitung" belonged.

Editorial policy

At first, the Salzburger Intellölkerblatt was a weekly supplement to the “Salzburger Zeitung”. Their title was changed in 1785 to "Oberdeutsche Staatszeitung". At that time it had about 1,100 subscribers. The name "intelligence sheet" (from Latin intellegere "to inspect, to take note") originally came from state announcements and official attacks, so it was not of critical origin. These announcements were made more attractive in the German area through additional rubrics in order to achieve greater dissemination. The content of the intelligence sheet changed: recurring rubrics, main topics, "contributions to patriotic history / latest contemporary history", over time increasing frequency of political reports, general historical, statistical annual overviews, European topics, warlike developments, personalities, inventions of industry, economic articles and contemporary literature. The "Salzburger Intellölkerblatt" is an example of the political and intellectual situation at the turn of the century in the Archdiocese of Salzburg, which had a special position both in business and in science (among other things due to its geographical location between Bavaria and the Habsburg lands favorable trade connections, lively exchange of ideas and the Benedictine University founded at the beginning of the 17th century.)
