Salzstadel (Munich)
The Salzstadel in Munich were warehouses in which the salt , to which the city of Munich owed its creation and part of its prosperity, was stored and sold.
history
The salt was originally stored on or near Marienplatz , where it was traded.
The first known salt stalls in Munich were located in the Kreuzviertel of Munich's old town at the point where the Promenadeplatz green area is today ( geographic coordinates ). According to Sandtner's city model of Munich, the Salzstadel were two elongated, low structures with a gable roof.
In the 19th century, the royal salt barn on Arnulfstraße (then called Salzstraße) was roughly where the forecourt of the Starnberg wing station is today ( geographic coordinates ).
The Salzstadel barracks was named after the Salzstadel on Arnulfstrasse, but it was not set up in the Salzstadel itself, but in a neighboring former granary.
