The Sam is a three-wheeled vehicle of vehicle class L5e for two people with seats arranged one behind the other. It is an economical (5 kWh / 100 km) electric car from the group of light vehicles .
Company history and development
When in March 1994 the Swatch car company SMH Volkswagen AG / SMH Automobile AG founded by Nicolas Hayek was partly taken over by Daimler AG , converted into MCC (Micro Compact Car) GmbH and incorporated into the Mercedes-Benz Cars division, differences arose with the previous development team. Marc Frehner (car designer), Daniel Ryhiner (automotive and environmental technologist) and Reiner Martin (finance manager) left MCC and founded Cree (Creation Research Ecology Engineering) AG in 1996, close to Swatch's headquarters. In 2001 the Sam Cree was introduced.
In addition to the original model, the Swiss company Cree AG produced a total of 90 prototypes, but discontinued the production of further prototypes in 2003 due to a lack of capital. In 2009, IG Sam Switzerland built one last Sam with the same construction using spare parts.
In the same year, the Polish company Impact Automotive Technologies took over production. From summer 2009, the electric car was mass-produced in Pruszków and sold in Poland for the equivalent of 15,000 euros (net). Since the end of 2009 the successor model Sam Re-Volt has been available in Poland, Switzerland and Germany. Production ended in 2014.
