action
Sam was a bald, human-like doll, with big eyes, ears and a nose. His friends were Yorick, a kind of crimson skull with a constant appetite, Harry the hipster (or beatnik ) and Kermit, an early preform of Kermit the frog . Many other characters were added later. At first the puppets mostly sang songs and danced to them. Later, skits written and performed in the show. One of these early skits was the so-called "Inchworm" (to German caterpillar); a doll - mostly Kermit - nibbled on a supposed worm (or a caterpillar), which suddenly turned out to be the nose or tongue of a large monster, and the figure was devoured by this monster. This sketch was picked up again and again in Henson's later productions.
