Samastipur is a city in the state of Bihar in eastern India . It is the headquarters of the Samastipur district of the same name . Samastipur has the status of a City Council ( Nagar parishad ). The city is divided into 28 wards. It is approximately 85 km from Bihar's capital, Patna . According to the 2011 census, the population of the city is 62,935 and that of the agglomeration is 67,925. The Burhi Gandak flows through the city.
