Sambhali Trust is a non-profit organization based in Jodhpur , whose focus is on the development and empowerment of women and girls in the state of Rajasthan .

target

The aim of the organization is to give disadvantaged women and girls a path to financial independence through various educational programs. The women are taught basic knowledge of Hindi, English and mathematics. In addition, programs to strengthen self-confidence and self-esteem are offered.

organization

Sambhali Trust was founded on June 16, 2007 by Govind Singh Rathore and has been run by him ever since. Many other projects were added to the initially only project, so that there are now 14 projects. This enables over 800 women in Jodhpur to be supported. Sambhali Trust is largely financed by donations from abroad. The trust also receives support from many volunteers from all over the world who want to help the disadvantaged women on site. Another financial pillar is the Sambhali Boutique in downtown Jodhpur, where the products made in the Sambhali Graduates' Sewing Center are sold. Here you can buy various items of clothing, accessories and embroidered textiles.

Projects

Sambhali Trust has various projects in the areas of education, awareness-raising, self-help and self-defense. There are 7 empowerment centers, a “boarding home” for young girls from the neighboring villages who receive schooling here, as well as holistic support. Another project is the "no-bad-touch project" that started in April 2014. It aims to educate various schools in Jodhpur about the issue of sexual harassment. After just a few months, over 20 private and public schools were attended and over 2000 pupils were educated. The latest project is a free helpline for women who have experienced domestic violence and discrimination and who urgently need help. This project started in cooperation with the local police.

history

Govind Singh Rathore was declared head of the family when his father suddenly passed away at the age of 14. In patriarchal society, widows have almost no rights. In view of this, his mother was subsequently disregarded by her friends and excluded from their company. Govind Singh Rathore recognized the importance of helping women who are in a similar situation to his mother. At the age of 20 he therefore began teaching some girls in the Dalit community to read and write. The girls' interest in free lessons was very high, and the number of female pupils grew steadily. Six months later, with the help of his family and friends, the Sambhali Trust was born.
