Same Love is the fourth single by the Seattle-based music duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis . It was released on the debut studio album The Heist in 2012 . The title was recorded in collaboration with Mary Lambert during the 74 Washington referendum campaign . This legalized gay marriage in Washington . The song reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. In New Zealand and Australia, it even reached number 1 on the charts.

The song was recorded during a referendum in Washington to legalize gay marriage (referendum 74). Macklemore also stated that the song was created as a reflection on homophobia in hip-hop circles.
