Samih Moudallal ( Arabic سميح مودلال, DMG Samih Moodlal ; * September 20, 1939 ) is a former Syrian weightlifter and today's entrepreneur and sports official.

General

Samih Moudallal studied social engineering and economic planning at Damascus University. After completing his studies, he became director of the Ministry of Finance's Planning and Statistics Office. He also worked as an advisor and secretary to the Syrian Parliament Speaker and was Secretary General of the Syrian Parliament. As general director, he heads two industrial companies.

Athletic career

Samih Moudallal did weightlifting. Between 1952 and 1972 he was Syrian national champion several times. Between 1961 and 1972 he was Arab champion, between 1963 and 1970 Asian runner-up. He finished 7th at the World Weightlifting Championships in Tehran in 1965 .

Sports administration

As Chef de Mission , Moudallal accompanied various Syrian teams to major events such as the Olympic Games and the Mediterranean Games. From 1971 to 1981 he was President of the Syrian Weightlifting Association. From 1981 to 2000 he was President of the Syrian NOC, in 2009 he became Honorary President for life. Since 2005 he has been an honorary member for life of the Comité international des Jeux méditerranéens .

IOC membership

In 1998 Samih Moudallal was elected an IOC member. He is currently a member of the Culture and Olympic Heritage Commission.
