Samira (also Samirah, Sameera and Sameerah / sæmiːrə /, Persian:سميرا, Arabic سميرة, Sanskrit: समीरा) is a female given name, which has its origins in the ancient Indian Sanskrit as well as the Persian and Arabic languages. There are references to other Semitic languages. Samira is the feminine form of the male given name Samir , the meanings of which are partly identical. The name's popularity has risen sharply since 2000 .
