Movie and TV

The Netflix series Orange Is the New Black is based on the memoir of the same name by Piper Kerman about her experiences in a women's prison. A screenwriter on the series, Marco Ramierez, who knew Wiley from Juilliard, drew her attention to the auditions. After another friend of the Juilliard, Danielle Brooks , got a role on the series, Wiley asked her to rehearse with her for the role of Poussey Washington, the role of Brooks' character's best friend. Wiley's audition was successful. She played in the first season and was even more prominent in the second. The darker and more violent story of the second season allowed for an evolution of Wiley's character. The expanding storylines and Wiley's increasing screen time led to Wiley becoming a fan favorite. For the third season, her character was expanded to a leading role. At the end of the fourth season, she left the series.

Wiley appeared in an advertisement for the digital money transfer service PayPal in 2014 .

Wileys had her first leading role in the comedy Bad Sitter (2011). Between shooting the second and third seasons of Orange Is the New Black , Wiley played a role in Rob the Mob , an independent crime thriller directed by Raymond De Felitta and released in March 2014.
