Collection of Russian folk songs with their melodies
The collection of Russian folk songs with their melodies ( Russian Собрание народных русских песен с их голосами / Sobranije narodnych russkich Pessen s I golossami , scientific. Transliteration Sobranie narodnych russkich pesen s I golosami ), including collection of Russian folk songs with their voices , is a collection of Russian folk songs originally published in Saint Petersburg in 1790 . It is one of the first printed collections to document the richness of Russian musical folklore. In the publications Iwan Pratsch (around 1750-1818) is listed as the editor, but it is assumed that the folk songs were collected by his patron Nikolai Lwow (1751-1803). They come from rural and urban sources. The collection went through several editions, whereby it was edited. The collection served as a source of Russian folk songs for both Russian and Western composers, including Ludwig van Beethoven , Gioacchino Rossini , Modest Mussorgsky and Igor Stravinsky, for more than a century . The first edition contained a hundred songs. The second, expanded edition, with another 50, appeared in 1806; the 3rd as a reprint of it in 1815. A more recent authoritative Russian edition was edited by the Russian-Soviet musicologist and folklorist Viktor Michailowitsch Beljajew (1888–1968) (Moscow: Staatlicher Musikverlag 1955). This edition adds melodies of songs from Trutowski's collection of simple Russian songs with sheet music (first edition 1776).
