Sir Samuel Weymouth Tapley Seaton , GCMG CVO QC JP (born July 28, 1950 ) is a St. Kitts and Nevis politician and the fourth Governor General of Saint Kitts and Nevis .

Life

Seaton was born on Saint Kitts . His parents were William A. Seaton and his wife, Pearl A. Seaton, nee Godwin.

education

Seaton received his education at Epworth Junior School, Basseterre High School, and St. Kitts-Nevis Grammar School. He then moved to the University of the West Indies in Jamaica , where he earned a Bachelor of Laws. He undertook further studies at the Council of Legal Education (England) and at the University of Bordeaux in France .

Career

Seaton began his civil servant career in the St. Kitts-Nevis Judicial Service, where he served as Registrar of the Supreme Court, Provost Marshal and Additional Magistrate. In 1975 he served as Crown Counsel for the Chamber of Attorney General and served as Registrar of the High Court. In 1980 he became St. Kitts-Nevis Attorney General himself, an office which he held until 1995. In 1988 he was named Her Majesty's Counsel . On October 23, 1985 he received the honor of Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO). On November 9th, 2015, he was ennobled as Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (GCMG) and has been addressed as "Sir" ever since.

In addition to his official positions, Seaton served in a number of honorary offices (Boards, National Committees & Organizations). Among other things, he was Director of SSMC, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, and the Frigate Bay Development Corporation; President of the St. Christopher Heritage Society (The St. Christopher National Trust), the St. Kitts-Nevis Bar Association, and the OECS Bar Association, and Vice President of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society and the St. Christopher National Trust; Chairman of Cable & Wireless (formerly SCANTEL).

He came to the position of Acting Governor-General after the overthrow of his predecessor Edmund Wickham Lawrence on May 20, 2015. On September 1, 2015, he was appointed Governor General by Queen Elizabeth II on the proposal of Prime Minister Timothy Harris .
