San Alfonso del Mar is a resort located in Algarrobo ( Chile ) directly on the Pacific coast about 100 km west of the capital Santiago . It was completed in December 2006. The facility received worldwide attention after the Guinness Book of Records awarded it the world record as the largest swimming pool.

Swimming pools and resorts

The San Alfonso swimming pool is 1013 meters long and 3.5 meters deep at the deepest point. It covers an area of ​​7.7  hectares and holds 250,000 m³ (250 million liters) of salt water. In order to keep the need for chemical agents low, 800,000 liters of fresh seawater from the Pacific are pumped into the basin, filtered and discharged every day. The hotels located directly at the swimming pool offer a. the opportunity for water sports such as swimming, kayaking or windsurfing.

Construction and development
