The San Benigno Torre Nord (in German: San Benigno North Tower ), often also called Il Matitone , is a high-rise in the Italian port city of Genoa . It was designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill , Mario Lanata  and Andrea Messina and completed in 1992. The skyscraper is located in the western district of San Benigno near the Genova-Ovest motorway junction to the A7 .

Due to its special design, the San Benigno Torre Nord was nicknamed Il Matitone , in English: the thick pencil . The bell tower of the Chiesa di San Donato in the old town of Genoa served as a model for its octagonal shape .

The skyscraper itself is 109 meters high and is divided into 26 floors . The Genoa lighthouse and the World Trade Center are both nearby .
