Lactime

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The lactimes ( singular : the lactime ) are a group of substances in organic chemistry . They are in equilibrium with their tautomeric form, the lactams . They are cyclic nitrogen compounds which contain the functional group -N = C-OH. The transformation of the tautomeric forms into one another via an inter -molecular mechanism. Lactams - cyclic compounds with the –NH – CO– group as a ring member - give rise to the corresponding lactimes and vice versa ( lactam-lactime tautomerism , prototropy ), see e.g. B. γ-butyrolactam and γ-butyrolactim:

Analogous to lactams, the names of lactimes are preceded by Greek letters in the nomenclature , which indicate how many carbon atoms there are in the ring next to the C – OH group (γ = 3, δ = 4).
